Neil-less Weekend

By July 9, 2010July 10th, 2010Jessica, Neil, relationship

oh my love....

Does that sound better than a Neil-free weekend? Neil is gone at a bachelor party this weekend. They’re going trout fishing in Arkansas. Apparently there are no trout in Missouri, or they’re very elusive or lackluster. He and I are very rarely apart. We are together, whether it be in-person or online…nearly all day. While at work, we’re synced through instant messaging, constantly bouncing ideas off one another or sharing random internet memes. I would venture to guess that most of the couples we know don’t even spend half the time with their spouse that Neil and I are together. That’s not a bad thing or a good thing. I’m not incapable of being without him. I can function, and get quite a bit done. Sometimes I even try new things. But its definitely a noticeable feeling of absence.

So to convince myself I was still hip, I started thinking about what I was going to do with myself yesterday. I realized quite quickly that I’m definitely getting older in the lame way. Here was my list of ideas — this is seriously the order they came in too, it’s really come to this level of…weaksauce.

  1. 1. Clean the forgotten basement bathroom we never use that still manages to get dirty.
  2. 2. Make (never home)maker’s banana soft serve and experiment with strange flavor and ingredient combinations.
  3. 3. Furminate the felines.
  4. 4. Try crocheting again…
  5. 5. Finally finish my portfolio website.
  6. 6. Pick 6 beer at Hy-Vee and watch the whole season of Real Housewives of New Jersey (okay that’s not so lame right?)
  7. 7. Categorize the books by Dewey Decimal.
  8. 8. Start making Clive’s Halloween Costume.
  9. 9. Dinner with all the foods Neil hates or tries to ban from the house.

It went downhill from there. Somewhere around #30 I realized none of my choices really involved leaving the house, and that I can’t have all that much rebellious fun when I eat healthy, rarely drink, and don’t like to stay up past 11pm. Ah well.

I hope all of you have a fantastic weekend, and if you have anything you’d like me to try, feel free to leave a comment below. Could make for some interesting Monday entertainment.

Not including the days I spent in the hospital after the boys were born I think I can count the number of days John and I have been apart on two hands and still have a few fingers left over. We’ve been married almost 8 years. What can I say- I like to be around my husband!

  • I totally hear you on this! Nathan and I hang out all the time. Occassionally I go out with the girls and he goes to shoot guns, but generally we enjoy each other’s company and spend the majority of our time together. (Good thing we’re in a relationship, eh?)

On the rare occassion that he does go out of town, I relish the chance to do all kinds of boring things – cleaning, organizing, and definitely eating all the foods he hates. But I’m always more than ready to have him back home!

Ah…I remember those days when you couldn’t get enough of each other. Love is beautiful. I’m getting boring as I get older too…but I love it. I like going to the bookstore, farmer markets, health/fitness events, all things my friends don’t understand.\

Congrats on your feature on reluctant veggie

With the exception of the weekends that Steven is out of town, we are always together in-person or on-line. We spent enough time apart during college summers and winter breaks that we really enjoy being around each other all the time now. 🙂

I can definitely relate to this! My fiance has been on a business trip all week and we are also together a ton. I had plans to cook semi-involved meals including things he hates, and I did some of that, but one night I ended up just eating a bunch of pita bread I had made, cleaned the kitchen, and went to bed.

Haha, I resorted to my favorite Annie’s Mac and Cheese flavors and drank some girly beer before passing out to episodes of Real Housewives of New Jersey and West Wing.
