Life gets crazy sometimes. And in all honesty, it’s not just sometimes anymore for us, it’s all the time. I’m convinced that it’s unavoidable. I used to have this idea that the older you got, the easier life became, and year by year, that proves again and again not to be the case. It’s so easy to get caught up in all the happenings that, while important, sometimes skew the view of what you have, and everything you’ve accomplished. You forget little victories and all the small pieces of your happiness that make up the whole because you’re off chasing the next goal, the next milestone and what you just have to get done next.
Julie Grice of Savvy Eats, one of my daily must-reads, has put together a fun little event. It’s called “50 Days of the Little Things.” I thought it would be fun to participate, not only because I need to be a little less practical and take the time to think of these things, but because the whole event leads nicely to the holiday season where, let’s face it, it’s hard to stay focused on what matters most.
So for my first Little Thing, I wanted to acknowledge one of the little things Neil does for me every day that I really appreciate: making my lunch.
Every day he’s out of bed before me to feed the “kids,” walk Clive and prepare our lunches. For me, that little extra sleep and time in the bathroom each morning means so much. Sometimes he puts little surprises in my lunch bag and my vitamins are always waiting for me on top. It probably seems silly, but to me it’s a non-verbal message of care and need. He needs me to be here, and it feels so good to be needed. But it’s a reminder of how much I really need him too.
