Weekend Recap: An Impromptu House Party

Living Room Success!

Is it just me, or did this weekend go by way too quickly? We got a ton done around the house, and still managed to have some fun in between. I’ll start with the work we got done. We plowed through the remaining boxes (with the exception of our decor stuff) and got them out of their collection spot in the front room. We then created at least a rough “living room” until we’re able to get two couches to the extra room and the guest bed upstairs to the guest room.

I also cleaned and washed all the floors (twice, because I’m OCD) and reorganized the kitchen in order to make the things we use most often accessible and the more breakable stuff safe from the roaming Felix, who loves to open cabinets. It’s looking…

KItchen...Progress?

…better? I think it’s looking better, but there’s still a whole lot of counter stuff to clear. Neil and I both take the minimalist approach to our counter space, but we unfortunately have too much stuff that was meant to be displayed and not stored. Not only that, but many of the items have been gifted to us, so then there’s some guilt associated with either not displaying them or giving the items away altogether. I’ll let you know how that progresses as Neil wants to tackle this tonight and tomorrow. We hope to be ready to start our first house-related project this weekend if we can get all the “deep cleaning” done.

Car meet

We also had a lot of fun this weekend thanks to some unexpected guests who dropped by. There was a sizeable car meet near campus, and a few friends were in town to attend from Neil’s hometown of Springfield, MO. After a few hours of cooking on the pavement, they decided to cool off with some beverages at our place. I was home and catching up on work, so imagine my surprise when I looked out the window to find these in my driveway:

Full House!

Our first visitors

Neil even took a little video to give you the full scope of just how many cars we squeezed into our driveway. I think the neighbors were a little perplexed as to why their new neighbors had eight sports cars in front of the house.

So a weekend of diligent hard work but also a good time and a chance to show off the house a bit. The reactions were all positive and we had tons of offers of help and vendor recommendations for the areas we’d like to improve. It definitely feels overwhelming to know just what we have ahead of us, but I’m taking a lot of deep breaths and taking to paper to write a lot of our ideas out. More on that this week!

What did you do this weekend?
