Hi guys! First, I have to completely apologize for just disappearing on you last week. It wasn’t my intent, nor to be delayed in announcing the winner of our Reader Survey Giveaway, but between the deck, some really tough project deadlines at work, and a hugely exciting freelance project launch, life got more than a little crazy. I wasn’t just absent from here, but almost social media entirely, which for someone who is pretty connected was pretty crazy. Short of our backpacking trips, I’m never not “around,” and I completely missed following your lives and activities as well. So to update you a little bit, check out our finished porches and deck!

It’s amazing how different the house looks and feels with the old red rotting decks and porches gone. The deck feels much bigger and brighter without the benches, and much stronger with bigger base supports. Again, we have to completely thank and heap praise on John Leigers Carpentry and Remodeling LLC. He was so amazingly resourceful, detailed, and professional to work with. To watch this come together over the past three weeks has been a joy, and we even have wood leftover for a few more projects like recycling containers and hopefully some flower boxes. All that remains to do on the deck is place panels in front for privacy, the small closet under the deck and to finish the gate at the top of the stairs for the dogs. We also want to gravel the dirt area under the deck to make it more presentable. But first, I want to completely repaint the garage and exterior doors. We’re not fans of the green, and the paint used to paint them was not made for exterior doors, so we’d like to remedy that and update the face of our house a little more before summer is over.

I used our new porches and deck as the subject of our first Vine. I recently downloaded the app on my Motorola Razr HD, and have had fun trying out the tool. For the longest time it wasn’t available for Droid, so it’s been cool to see what the fuss is all about!

So far I prefer Vine to Instagram’s latest features, how about you?

And now the winner of our Reader Survey Giveaway. While I’m definitely going to do another post about the results (so interesting!), I wanted to announce the winner is….

Heather S! I will email you to confirm your shipping address so you can receive your prize! Thank you so much to everyone who filled out the survey. It was so good to hear from so many of you and to learn more about what you want to see and hear from us. We have SO many ideas to run with, and hopefully in the next two months we can finally update the site with the some of the features and resources you want to see. Until then, thank you so much again, and I am SO sorry for the delay!

The deck looks awesome! Congrats on getting such a big project done. I can’t wait to own a house. 😉

Also, I just realized I never took the survey – I’ve also been absent from the Internet for most of the last two weeks. I just took it, which means you’ll know which answers were mine, but I think you could have figured that out anyway. 🙂
