Friday Link-up and Loving Lately

By April 22, 2016May 5th, 2016Friday Link-up

Another week in the books, and I’m enjoying a little late night surfing while KK sleeps next to me. This weekend is definitely going to be PACKED. It’s the annual Kholucks McBacheloff party we do with friends (all our last names combined make the title), and we’re also going to do a 2-hour launch training session with clients. Add in all the normal stuff like mowing, workouts, meal prep, and naps — and yikes, I guess let the fun begin?

Last night I kicked off new extra training to work on handstand push-ups and hopefully toward handstand holds and walks. My handstand push-ups are okay, but they aren’t as good as they could be. I feel like I have a lot of inefficiency and imbalance that is residual from spraining my wrist last year.

It was one of my 2016 goals to achieve a handstand walk, so now that muscle-ups are in better shape, I’m going to shift focus a bit and work on this goal. Check out my first night’s work above. And tonight’s workout was overhead squats with a 3 count pause at the bottom, waiter carries, and banded face pulls. Shoulders will definitely be taking the weekend off…

Book Basket

I’ve been shifting a lot of Kaitlan’s books around her various baskets and I feel like it’s having an effect on her interest level in reading, especially at night. If you haven’t been following along, my previously book-loving daughter had been refusing to even look at a book, going so far as to push them away, much to the dismay of her book-obsessed mother.

I also think part of this is her language cognition catching up with her physical development. She can understand quite a bit more than before. She is still constantly in motion and getting her to sit still at all for books is a challenge, but she has ten or so books she likes to read over and over, so I guess I’ll work with what I can.

So that was our exciting end of the week, here are a few fun things I’ve come across this week!

Books
  • I struggle with letting books go when I’m not enjoying them. I always feel like I just have to finish them. Jessica Turner’s post, Some Thoughts on Abandoning Books, inspired me to finally let go of a few that I’ve been struggling with.
  • I’m currently reading Originals: How Non-Conformists Move the World, so this TEDx talk by Adam Grant was definitely a timely pop-up on YouTube’s suggested videos. If you have a side biz, passionate hobby, or still manage multiple ventures while working a day job, this book (and talk) is for you.

Fitness/CrossFit
  • If you’re as familiar with Mickey Mouse Clubhouse as I am, I’m sure you’ll find the above entertaining. We watch certain TV shows/movies over and over again, so this may be the way to keep it exciting!
  • As someone who struggled with self-esteem and body image growing up, I often wonder what my life had been like had I discovered CrossFit and lifting at a young age. I can’t wait to watch Kaitlan grow up with this sport, and I hope she loves it as much as I do. Check out this post, How Weightlifting Changed My Life by Gabby Haugh.
  • There are hundreds of awesome people on social media to follow, but today, I want to point you to Alexandra LaChance (NoPantsLaChance) on Instagram. Her channel has dozens of fun drills, warm-ups, and challenges to try in your own spare time. As I love accessory work, I’ve already done a couple this week.
Health
  • In my ever present desire to remove more chemicals from our lifestyle, this post on safe anti-aging skincare by Real Food Liz was some welcome brain food for thought.
Food
  • This Sweet Potato Carbonara with Spinach and Mushrooms looks to die for. I’ve never tried spiralizing with my food processor, I wonder how it would go?
  • Before we worked to eliminate a lot of the processed foods from our diet, we used to get flavored coffee creamer all the time. It’s hard not to miss it. I ran across this non-dariy Salted Caramel Coffee Creamer by the Wheatless Kitchen on Pinterest and will probably add it to the prep list for tomorrow.
  • I’ve been wanting to make kimchi and this kimchi hummus looks so good — and KK is really loving kimchi lately.

What are your plans this weekend?

I’m glad you mentioned being comfortable with abandoning books. I’m slowly working in this direction too. I jumped on the All The Light We Cannot See bandwagon and unfortunately the first 30 pages did not capture my attention. I couldn’t handle it so I gave it up for now. Maybe I’ll grab it again in another mood later down the line.

Thanks for the other links! Checking them out. 🙂
