Lord of the Rings Watch Party

By December 19, 2013Books, Christmas, Cool Stuff, Friends, Movies

A few weeks ago Neil and I were laying on the couch on a Sunday night when he brought up watching the Lord of the Rings Trilogy (the MEGA Blu-ray Extended Version) over our holiday break before seeing the second Hobbit film, The Desolation of Smaug. Typically we watch the Trilogy in its entirety once a year over several days around Christmas. But somehow, in the course of that conversation, we came up with the idea of having a watch party. For the entire trilogy. In one day.

So we made a Facebook post to see if there would be any interest, and were bowled over by the overwhelming “we have to do this!” response. So we set the date, quickly replaced the oven just in time and had everyone over this past weekend.

Our house was packed to the gills with food and people from 3:00pm till almost 4:00am. We even had a drinking game. I wish I would have taken more pictures but I was eating, socializing and engrossed with the movie so these phone pics will have to do.

It was so much fun that we plan to make this a semi-regular event with other series. Harry Potter! Evil Dead! Back to the Future! Kung Fu! Star Wars! The possibilities are endless.

A big thanks to everyone who came out and brought snacks and made our little yearly tradition so freaking awesome!

Are there any movies you make a point of watching yearly?

Note: Extra special thanks to Michelle. I stole your pics.

  • Are there any movies I watch yearly???? A TON! Whenever I’m sick I watch “Adventures in Babysitting” or “Don’t Tell Mom the Babysitter’s Dead” or “Finding Nemo”. I watch “Groundhog Day” every February. I watch “Planes, Trains and Automobiles” every Thanksgiving. Christmas is the obligatory round of “Christmas Vacation”, “The Holiday”, Love Actually”, and “Die Hard.” Sometime in the winter I have to watch “Cutting Edge.”

I’d say 90% of my movie watching is just re-watching my favorites!
