A Welcome Break

Crossfit DInner

On Thursday we went to dinner with people from our Crossfit program. We didn’t know what to expect. We’re still so new to everything, nothing piles on the pressure like ordering food and trying to stay within the bounds of Paleo.

We met at a restaurant that had just developed some new Paleo-friendly menu options. The wait was long, and not wanting to wait, we decided to head up to another restaurant instead. There weren’t any options there, but everyone ordered burgers and pizza and enjoyed rounds of beer and wine.

Nobody freaked out. No one was judgmental. There was no one-upmanship or elitism. Most of us attend sessions at different times and were meeting for the first time, but you wouldn’t have known it if you were watching the table. We could have talked all night.

Having lived in the “bible belt” for some time, I’m used to people’s often overwhelming enthusiasm for their church and beliefs. I never got it, and I hated when people tried to convince me to join. In the past two months, I’ve tried to convince no less than a dozen people to try the Paleo/Crossfit. In some small way, I think I get it now…
